Cornwall Park Community EcoHub
(CPDS Te Māra Hapori)
The Cornwall Park Community EcoHub is a community-led space for connection, learning, and climate action. Located on the grounds of Cornwall Park District School, the EcoHub is a welcoming place where people come together to reconnect—with nature, with each other, and with practical ways to care for the environment.
More than a garden, the EcoHub is a living, breathing hub for sustainability learning, climate conversations, and collective action. It brings together neighbours, families, migrants, and volunteers of all ages to grow, share, and learn in a hands-on, inclusive setting.
Building Local Connections
Greenlane is one of Auckland’s most diverse communities, yet many residents experience social isolation and limited opportunities to connect. The EcoHub offers a calm, welcoming outdoor space where people can slow down, get their hands in the soil, and build genuine relationships across cultures and generations.
This shared space creates belonging—especially for new migrants, families, and those seeking meaningful community connection through simple, practical activities.
Garden Working Bees
Our regular working bee sessions are the heart of the EcoHub. These sessions focus on gardening, composting, soil care, seasonal planting, and general garden maintenance—but no experience is needed.
The goal isn’t perfection; it’s participation. Working bees are designed to:
- Welcome people with no gardening background
- Encourage intergenerational learning
- Build confidence through hands-on practice
- Create routine opportunities for connection and care
Through these sessions, the garden becomes a shared responsibility—and a shared achievement.
Transforming Space Together
The EcoHub was established through collaboration between Earth Action Trust, Cornwall Park District School, and local partners. With support from the Albert-Eden Local Board and other community allies, an unused corner of the school grounds has been brought to life as a shared community resource.
The space continues to grow through partnerships—welcoming local organisations, businesses, volunteers, and supporters to collaborate, contribute, and activate the hub in new and meaningful ways.
Climate Workshops
The EcoHub is also a platform for wider climate conversations. Alongside working bees, we host workshops and activities that explore everyday climate action in accessible ways—such as low-waste living, composting, plant-based food, sustainable transport, and energy awareness.
These workshops are grounded in real-life action, using the EcoHub as a live learning environment. Our ambition is to make climate action feel practical, relevant, and achievable—starting where people are.
Guided by Te Ao Māori
We aim to honour Māori perspectives by:
- Embedding environmental guardianship into how the space is cared for
- Incorporating te reo Māori where appropriate
- Hosting learning opportunities grounded in Te Ao Māori worldviews
- Aligning activities with seasonal and cultural moments such as Matariki
Through this, the EcoHub supports respectful learning, cultural understanding, and deeper connection to papatuanuku.
