You have to hold yourself accountable for your actions, and that’s how we’re going to protect the Earth. – Julia Butterfly Hill
Waste Minimisation Education Presentation and Workshop
Our waste minimisation education presentation and workshop, formerly called “SAIKI (psyche)”, aims at changing our mind in treating waste as a resource not as a problem. Topics and activities include:
- How our lifestyles contribute to environmental problems
- The 6R concept for sustainability (refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and rot)
- How to sort rubbish at home
- Waste audit at each household
This programme has been delivered to more than 800 people in household and community group settings since 2013, with consideration of participants’ cultural backgrounds.
Live Lightly!! Newcomers
Live Lightly is an Auckland Council’s initiative that shows the everyday lifestyle choices we can all make to have a healthier life with minimal material and energy consumption. Participants are encouraged to pledge day to day actions to make a positive change and impact on the world.
Newcomers often bring their familiar habits and attitudes to the environment to New Zealand. Our Live Lightly!! Newcomers training aims to address this gap by informing them what is expected in the new country to be an environmentally responsible citizen. Trainees will also facilitate the same programme to their own communities as a trainer.
